Windowsill Basil Pot

Care for one basil plant and discover how its scented leaves grow.

You will need

With a grown-up, choose a pot with drainage holes and a warm, bright place. Keep the pot away from unsafe window edges.
Add suitable growing mix. If using a seedling, lift it gently and plant at its previous depth; if sowing, follow the seed packet.
Water gently, allow it to drain and empty standing water from the saucer.
Check the growing mix regularly. Water when needed rather than leaving it soggy.
Look for new leaves each week and sketch their size and shape. Ask before rubbing or tasting a leaf.
An adult checks that the plant is correctly identified and grown safely before any kitchen use.
