Make a Recycled Pot
Give a clean plastic food tub a new job as a colorful little plant pot.
- Ages 5–12
- Difficulty 1 of 3
- About 20 minutes
- Home or school
You will need
- Clean, empty plastic food tub
- Washable non-toxic markers or stickers
- Grown-up to make drainage holes
- Saucer or tray
- Suitable potting or seed-starting mix
- Seed or small plant
- Ask a grown-up to wash and dry an empty plastic tub. Choose one with no sharp edges and remove loose labels.
- The grown-up makes a few drainage holes in the bottom using an appropriate tool. Children should not cut or drill the tub.
- Decorate the outside with washable non-toxic markers or stickers. Keep the inside clean for the plant.
- Put the tub on a saucer, fill it with suitable growing mix and gently plant a seed or small plant. Follow its packet or plant label for depth and spacing.
- Water gently and let extra water drain into the saucer. Empty standing water. Put the pot where that plant needs to grow.
- Give your new pot a name. Draw how the plant changes over the next few days.
