Make Seed Paper
Reuse plain paper scraps to make a new sheet with seeds inside.
- Ages 8–12
- Difficulty 2 of 3
- About 35 minutes
- Home or school, indoors
You will need
- plain uncoated paper scraps
- bowl of water
- hand masher or blender used only by an adult
- mesh screen and towel
- small untreated seeds suited to local conditions
- Tear plain uncoated paper into small pieces and soak them in water with a grown-up.
- An adult turns the soaked paper into a soft pulp. Children do not use a blender.
- Spread a thin layer of cool pulp onto a mesh screen above a tray.
- With adult help, sprinkle a few suitable untreated seeds onto the cool pulp, then gently press them in.
- Press out extra water with a towel and let the sheet dry fully in a well-ventilated place.
- Write the seed name on a separate label. Ask a grown-up when and where those seeds may be sown; germination is not guaranteed.
