Identification:

  • Soft-bodies, flat and waxy
  • Oval shape and body segmentation
  • Females appear as nymphs resembling cottony spots whilst males (look completely different) are gnat-like and have wings looking like small flies

Damage to plants:

  • Inject toxins into plants whilst feeding, causing deformation
  • Yellowed and dropping leaves
  • Distorted growth
  • Sooty black mold
  • In extreme cases plant will defoliate and/or die
